The RWGP Sir Andrew of Ghellinge was approached by Sir Michael of Wachefeld (now the Grand Sentry) at a meeting of the East Midlands Grand Preceptors Council in approximately 2021 with the concept of "Two Can - You Can," specifically for the Gilbert Becket Chapel,

Sir Michael had seen something similar being used somewhere else outside of masonry. 

Discussions took place to adapt the concept to make it more acceptable for Masonry and now tins of food are donated by Sir Knights attending the Gilbert Becket Chapel No 100 and are donated to local food banks

The initiative was proposed by Sir Andrew of Ghellinge at a meeting of the Gilbert Becket Chapel, as at that time Sir Andrew was the Grand Almoner and also the Almoner of Gilbert Becket Chapel No 100

The proposition was unanimously agreed by all present (including the Grand Master at the time

- Sir Melvyn of Wudplumpton)) that this would be so, ad infintum. 

When Sir David of Mufulira became Grand Almoner he took over stewardship of the initiative

Given that the Gilbert Becket Chapel No 100 meets at Long Eaton, the cans collected have always been donated to the Sawley and Long Eaton Foodbank, operated by the Trussell Trust on Station Road Long Eaton.

To date 376 cans with a weight of 167.32 Kilo's.

The Food Bank always uses weight, not the number of cans.

They are however, very grateful for them.

Sir David has tried to get the amount of cans each meeting up to at least 100 to match the Chapel Number.

He is still working towards that target and the amount continues to grow and 86 cans has been the highest as of yet

Discussions are currently taking place as to how the scheme could be extended to increase the size and geographical spread of the donations and Chapel Almoners will be contacted shortly to lead collections within their own Chapels and identifying suitable local food banks- Update to follow
